Our support for the Boat Collective in Athens
The Boat Collective in Athens is a creative meeting place for people from all backgrounds.
In addition to weekly art courses in all art forms, we organize concerts, performances, film screenings, festivals, book and clothing bazaars, hold seminars and celebrate festivals of different cultures.
Our aim is to make art accessible to everyone, because we believe in the empowering, healing and unifying power of art, a language that everyone understands. But above all, art is a medium for creating community. The boat should be a home for everyone who longs for one and a place where everyone can feel they belong.
Why is the Boat Collective in Athens so important for the community?
Everyday life in Greece can be tough for many people. People who have fled war and persecution find it difficult to gain access to society. Many young adults from Greece can also barely afford to study and engage in leisure activities. At the same time, politicians and authorities, as in many other EU countries, are trying to further divide the community and react to new arrivals with isolation and exclusion.
We want to create a safe place where people who have fewer opportunities to participate in society can develop artistically, develop new perspectives and regain a sense of self-efficacy. Everyone has the opportunity to actively shape the place and the activities and contribute ideas, to use the place for their own projects and to bring new visions to life with the existing structures.
That’s why everything is free in our center – no one has to pay, everyone can get involved. You are welcome, whether you:
- Want to offer a course yourself
- Want to take part in theater, art and dance workshops
- Looking for a place to realize your own ideas
- Simply looking for community and a warm place to meet

What are the donations for?
We are dependent on donations for the rent of our Community Center, electricity, ancillary costs, food and materials.
We also want to build a media lab in our center soon so that film, media and podcast makers can realize their projects.
We would also like to be able to pay our workshop leaders an expense allowance in future. Refugees and marginalized groups in particular find it difficult to offer their courses or join the Boat team on a voluntary basis given their circumstances. We therefore want to make it easier for them to access our meeting place and increase our reach.
Let’s make the Boat Collective strong together!
With just 5, 10 or 20 euros a month, you can help us cover our running costs in the long term and keep our project going!
