Exile Media Hub Greece
The Media Hub Greece is a project for people on the move who have a journalistic/media background and who had to flee persecution in their home countries. In particular, the program is aimed at people who are stuck in first reception facilities and lengthy asylum procedures after their arrival in Greece and are not only unable to pursue their work, but also have to struggle with the often inhumane circumstances and the inaction imposed on them.
We therefore want to support journalists and media professionals on Lesvos and in Athens to…
1) continue their profession and to train and develop themselves further
2) make use of direct connections, platforms and networking
3) Break through the lack of perspectives caused by long periods of displacement and bureaucratic procedures
What are the goals of the Media Hub Greece?
The Exile Journalism and Media Hub Greece is a project for people migrating to the EU through Greece and who are:
- Writing, photography, or video journalists
- Podcasters, film makers, writers, or bloggers
- Interested in becoming media makers of different kinds
The hub gives space and opportunity to:
- Keep working in learned media professions, while growing and developing further skills together
- Network, connect, combine and access resources to make all voices heard and perspectives seen
- Break through any inflicted loss of perspective and paralysis created by lengthy bureaucratic procedures and other burdening experiences while reaching Europe
- Create own platforms and modes of language and storytelling to bring across messages and viewpoints that are not represented enough in mainstream media
We want to offer workshops on
- writing, film making, podcasting
- Publishing, multiplying, public talking
- Media law and rights
The Exile Media Hub Greece is a project of LeaveNoOneBehind, Media in Transition and Cooperation (MiCT), and the Boat Collective Athens.
In spring 2025, we want to start our pilot phase for the project in Athens.
Now we need you: To offer the team equipment such as microphones, cameras, laptops and tablets, as well as a space to work and create in, we rely on individual donations that flow directly and entirely into the project in Athens!
