Media Hub Greece
The Media Hub Greece is a project for people on the move who have a journalistic/media background and who had to flee persecution in their home countries. In particular, the program is aimed at people who are stuck in first reception facilities and lengthy asylum procedures after their arrival in Greece and are not only unable to pursue their work, but also have to struggle with the often inhumane circumstances and the inaction imposed on them.
We therefore want to help journalists and media professionals on Lesvos and in Athens to…1) Give them the opportunity to continue their profession and to train and develop themselves further2) Provide direct connections, platforms and networking3) Breaking through the lack of prospects caused by long periods of flight and bureaucratic procedures
What are the goals of the Media Hub Greece?
The project will…
1) Transform the “waiting time” of arriving refugees into an education and training period in the form of workshops, bootcamps and trainings with the help of experts, trainers for journalism and media skills, translators and psychological support, as well as access to resources such as laptops, cameras, tablets, etc.
2) Initiate a skill-sharing platform that develops sustainably and independently and in which refugees with media training connect with each other and offer mutual supportThe Media Hub Greece is a project of LeaveNoOneBehind and Media in Transition and Cooperation (MiCT).
In January 2025, we want to start our pilot phase for the project in Athens and on Lesvos. And we are still looking for support!
