Pylos is not an isolated case! – Q&A on July 3 at 6 pm with the lawyers of Human Rights Legal Project, Samos
June 27, 2024
Tying the hands of people seeking protection and throwing them into the sea – that is brutal murder. And it is committed by officers of the Greek Coast Guard: A BBC report last week exposed these practices by Greek border police and the Hellenic Coast Guard (HCG). At least 43 people have drowned in this way in recent years, a catastrophe that no one opposes. No one, except the lawyers from organizations like Human Rights Legal Project!
Want to learn more about how the incredible team of lawyers, and activists on Samos are tackling border violence, pushbacks, human rights violations and unlawful arrests of refugees?
Come to our Q&A on July 3rd at 6pm and meet Dimitris and Ioanna, two of the lawyers of HRLP and the Pylos Defense Team!
Who will you be talking to?
- Dimitris ChoulisCriminal lawyer from Samos and co-founder of HRLP
- Ioanna Begiazi: Human rights lawyer for HRLP
Together with Dimitris and Ioanna, we want to talk about how the system of human rights violations and pushbacks at Greece’s external border has developed in recent years – and how it paved the way for a catastrophe like the one in Pylos a year ago.
At the same time, we want to give an outlook: On what needs to happen now and what we as European civil society can and must do to fight against the violence and disenfranchisement at our external borders and beyond.
We look forward to seeing you there!
