Kalamata: Request for recovery of the ship and recovery of the remains of the wreck of Pylos by relatives of missing persons

The lawyers of the relatives of the missing persons of the deadly shipwreck in Pylos, Maria Papamina (Greek Council for Refugees), Eleni Spathana (Support for Refugees in the Aegean) and Yannis Kastanos, came to the Prosecutor’s Office of Kalamata today and submitted on their behalf a request for the lifting of the ship and the recovery of the bodies from the seabed.

Counsel requested that the fishing vessel be located and raised, the bodies be located , found and recovered for the purpose of their identification and subsequent burial, and that photographic and video footage of the shipwreck be taken for the purpose of preserving relevant evidence.

The written request was recorded following an oral hearing with the Attorney General.

Members of the city’s antifascist movement were simultaneously outside the courthouse, holding placards with slogans in Greek and English: ‘The dead and their families demand justice – Retrieve the bodies now’, ‘Solidarity will not sink’, ‘Mass grave off Pylos. We do not forget. The Greek state?”, “European and Greek immigration policies are killing, No to Fortress Europe”, “European and Greek immigration policies are killing, No to Fortress Europe”.
